This was the first year that the dinner was held in the parish center. The room was decorated beautifully. The table centerpieces were dark pink, white and light pink peonies from gardens in the community. They were placed on glass mirrors with tea lights arranged around each side. Lighted white trees accented the corners of the room.
The presentation of the hors d'oeuvres was very appetizing. A large vase of flowers was the focal point surrounded by hors d’oeuvres. The guests were able to wet their appetites for the main course with sausage rolls, bacon wrapped crackers, spinach & artichoke bake, smoked salmon and pickled beets.
The dinner began with a festive salad with poppy seed dressing. Next on the menu was a grape and walnut salad. The main course was a choice of prime rib or pork loin with twice bake potato and fresh green beans and mushrooms. The variety of desserts offered were sugar free banana pie, sugar free chocolate pie, blueberry cheese cake, rum cake, chocolate turtle cake, chocolate peanut butter cup pie, and angel food cake/mixed berry dessert. Wine from the Indianola La Vida Loca winery was available throughout the evening.
During the salad portion of the meal, Katie Stream entertained us with her beautiful voice. She encouraged us to continue eating and conversing while she sang a selection of music.
The serving staff was excellent. Some of the teens from Sacred Heart Youth Group accomplished this task. They were very efficient and courteous. One may have wondered if they had been professionally trained or maybe it was all those Fall Festival dinners where they learned to do such a great job.
Thanks to all those who attended this event. You made it a great succes. Thanks also to the youth and adults who help serve, prepare and clean up. A special thanks goes to the Scheve family for all their hard work in preparing the food, serving and kitchen clean up.
