Totus Tuus 2009
written by Danielle Hoch

Totus Tuus 2009Totus Tuus is a summer catechetical program where four college students come to share their love with Christ for each parish they visit. Brett, Chris, Maria, and Kelly all came to Chariton to put on Totus Tuus for the youth at Sacred Heart Church.

Totus Tuus kicked off Sunday night at 8 p.m. Every night the high schoolers met from 8-10 and listened to a talk given by Chris on Christian Anthropology. Then Maria gave a talk on Christian virtues. The high schoolers were encouraged to give input and ask questions. The talks on the other nights included Christian Relationships, High School Virtues, Confession, Adoration, and Vocations. On Tuesday the high schoolers were encouraged to go to confession and spend an hour before the Lord in adoration.
During the day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the elementary students attended Totus Tuus. Every morning the kids participated in “pump-up” which included a game and a small talk on a mystery of the rosary. This year the children were learning about the joyous mysteries. Then the children went to class. Through out the week the children learned about the virtues, both cardinal and theological virtues. They also learned about the beatitudes and were taught a song to help them to remember.
The day also included Mass. Chris talked to the students about the Real Presence. He wanted to get across to the student just how real the Lord in the Eucharist was. He told stories, gave meditations, and let the kids know his own love for the Lord in the Eucharist. After, the kids had lunch and then went to recess in the Chariton Community Center. They played basketball, tag, and other games.
The week came to an end when the winning class was able to sundae one of the teachers. After the sticky mess, the kids had a water fight. The whole week was a blast for all those involved.
