Office of Communications
Diocese of Des Moines
The Diocese of Des Moines, through its Centennial Culture Committee, has obtained 18 prints of the Saint John's Bible, the first handwritten Bible in 500 years. The prints will become a traveling exhibit throughout the diocese's six regions during its centennial year that began Nov. 21.
The first stop of the traveling exhibit is Christ the King Catholic Church, 5711 SW Ninth St. in Des Moines. Fifteen of the beautifully illuminated pages will be on display in the Gallery beginning the first week of Advent through Christmas. The public is invited to come and see the amazing artwork and calligraphy on the prints. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. any day of the week at no charge.
The remaining three prints will be on display at the Catholic Pastoral Center, 601 Grand Ave., in Des Moines at the second-floor reception area.
Obtaining the prints for a traveling exhibit is just one of many ways the diocese is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Another upcoming cultural event is "Christmas with the Des Moines Choral Society" on Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ambrose Cathedral, 601 High St. in Des Moines. Watch www.dmdiocese.org/culture.cfm for details on upcoming events.
The Diocese of Des Moines Catholic includes 82 parishes in 23 counties in central and southwest Iowa.
