Tour of the Church continued...

To our right as we enter the nave, just beyond the confessional we can see a votive light stand. Why do we light votice candles? They are symbols for watching and waiting. Catholics drop an offering in the coin slot in the front of the stand (to defray the cost of candles). We then light one of the votive candles while saying a prayer for our particular intention. The candle continues to burn even after we leave the church as a sign our prayer continues to rise toward heaven and that God will remember us and our prayer.
