Baptism - Arrangements should be made as soon as possible following birth. Please contact the office to schedule your child's baptism.
Holy Eucharist - Catholics in the state of grave sin should not receive Holy Communion until after receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance. Ordinarily, non-Catholics are not allowed to receive Holy Communion. For more information, please click here.
Reconciliation and Penance - Offered on Saturdays from 3:45 - 4:15 p.m. or call the office to schedule an appointment.
Holy Matrimony - Please contact the office at least six months prior to your wedding date. If there is a prior marriage with no annulment, then the process may take up to a year.
Anointing and/or Holy Communion - If you or someone you know is admitted to the hospital and would like to receive Anointing of the Sick or Holy Communion, please call the office to schedule a visit.

On Friday, February 3, the Women of Sacred Heart went to visit Helen at the Circle of Life Comfort House. Gloria Lee brought homemade rolls, zucchini bread and a plate of cookies. Coffee was provided by the Circle of Life Comfort House. Helen and the ladies really enjoyed the visit.
Next Friday, February 17 the Women of Sacred Heart are going to visit Rosemary Evans at 10:00 a.m. All the Women of Sacred Heart are invited to attend.

Women of Sacred Heart sponsored a Christmas brunch at the home of Gloria Lee on Thursday, December 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. All the ladies of the parish were invited. The officers of the women's group provided the meal for the brunch. The women who attended brought cookies and treats for shut-ins and friends of the parish. At 1:00 p.m. the women wrapped Christmas plates. The plates included cookies, fruits and a Christmas ornament for decoration. Sugar free candy replaced the cookies for those with diabetes. The plates were delivered that day by a few of the ladies. A enjoyable afternoon was had by all who attended. This has become an annual event for the women's group of Sacred Heart. Thanks to all the ladies who were able to fit this into their busy Christmas schedule. A special thanks goes to ,Jaynane Hardie, Gloria Lee and Evelyn Pollard, who hosted and organized the event.

WOMEN OF SACRED HEART MEETING
The Women of Sacred Heart met Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the parish center. There were 9 members present.
The June meeting was called to order by President Jaynane Hardie at 6:35 pm. Barb Kauffman passed out a written prayer for the people of the parish, all joined in reading it.
Our guest speaker was unable to attend so Jaynane shared her involvement in the community starting with the Lucas County Fair. She has fair books available for any one wishing to enter in open class. She encouraged us to consider entering pies, quilts or veggies in the open class. Jaynane is also involved in the Master Gardeners & Friends - they are having a garden tour at 5 homes on Saturday afternoon. Tickets are available at the Chamber. The Master Gardeners also plant the flowers on the square & in front of the businesses. They had a plant sale at the Farmers Market in May. MG & F applied for a grant to get solar lights for the 'Welcome to Chariton" signs. There are 4 signs and they want 3 spot lights for each sign. Jaynane is also active in the Lucas County Area Agency on Aging, which is the Chariton Senior Center. They are celebrating 35 years on 9/11/10 with on open house & are getting new tables and chairs with two grants..
Jaynane asked if anyone else wanted to share their involvement in our Community. Gloria Lee mentioned NARF was having a fund raiser for Alzheimer's.
The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved. The treasurer reported our balance as $4,154.38. Our special "Family in need Fund" has a balance of $495.00.
It was reported Manor Mass was held on the first Wednesday, June 2nd. The 3 residents attended along with several from the Parish. They went on to Northridge with 6 residents attending.
Old Business:
The Rummage Sale raise $1,701.05, someone wants to buy the remaining Precious Moments. Jaynane requested in the future we not take electronics - if they don't sell we have to pay $10.00 a piece to get rid of them. Also, Christmas or winter items should not come to the Spring Sale. ALL ITEMS need to be CLEAN and in good condition. Everyone who helped sort, worked the sale and helped with the clean up were thanked. A thank you note to Don & Minnie Mullens and Kirk Moody will be sent for hauling stuff away. We will remember to call a lady from Russell that has a shop in the school to see if she will take left over items at the next sale..
Pat Thompson is going to bring Betty Hurley items to the basement now for the fall sale.
The stove is in ($598.90). Ken Lee will pick it up. It won't be installed until July when Ron Altenhofen is available.
Totus Tutus - there were no requests for scholarships.
Michelle McKernan reported on the Confirmation dinner. It was well received. They did over buy as they figured for 150 but only 90 attended. The extra meat was used for the Hurley funeral and Totus Tutus.
The Blood Drive is Wednesday, June 23 at the parish center. Remember to bring cookies we pledged to Bob Anderson.
The funeral dinner for Betty Hurley served 42. Sister Kathleen was here for the funeral. Pat Thompson sent a very nice thank you card.
New Business:
Fall Rummage sale will be Sept 16-17-18, Thurs-Sat, with all proceeds to the Fall Festival. We need new signs. Gloria made a motion to buy new signs - main big one and small ones for individual days. Norma Hoch seconded - motion passed. Evelyn will order.
Corpus Christi Sunday - June 27th. Setup is to be on Saturday. Sunday meet at the Church at 2:30 and at 3pm they will process to 5 houses and end up at the Parish Center. The 4th Degree Knights will attend. A potluck will be held after the procession with Dwight Hoch cooking the meat. Everyone is to bring a dish.
We need to have someone be our correspondant to the Catholic Mirror to write articles about activities at our church. No one volunteered.
Upcoming events: Fall Festival- Sept 19th
Gloria will do the quilt raffle and have a sign up sheet in the back of the church for selling raffle tickets.
Next Meeting August 19th. We will not have a July meeting. Marge Rodgers and Alice Herring will bring refreshments.

There will not be a meeting of the Women of Sacred Heart in the month of July. We do not meet during the months of July and December. I apologize for not getting this in the bulletin. But we do have several things going on you should know about.
The second stove is here. Special thanks to Gloria and Ken for getting it picked up in Indianola. I have contacted Ron Altenhofen about getting it installed as soon as he can get to it or before the Fall Festival!
The Fall Festival rummage sale will be held September 16, 17, & 18. Same hours as the spring one. We will start about the middle of August sorting on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday at 9 A.M. We need all the help we can get because this is a very BIG task for a few people to do.
Please take note that we want fall and winter clothing only (no summer items) that are CLEAN and with out holes, stains, or pet hairs. Also, we WILL NOT be taking electronic items such as computers, monitors or old TV's. We have to take them to the land fill in Marion County and pay to dispose of them when they do not sell.....$10 per item . This eats into our profit plus is time, energy and gas for the person making the trip. (You can personally dispose of them each May during the city clean-up day.) If you have Christmas items this is the sale to bring them to also.
If you must bring a printer you must bring instruction booklet, the disc to install and any cords...plus it's age. It is not enough to write on a paper that it "works good" when it can't be installed.
We do appreciate the vast amount of good items that are donated each year and have seen the total sales raise from $500 to almost $2000 at some sales. Shoppers thank us every sale for keeping the prices low so we know that Sacred Heart is providing a service to the community.
The Women of Sacred Heart met Thursday, March 18, 2010 at the ParishCenter. There were 10 members present.
The March meeting was called to order by President Jaynane Hardie at 6:35 pm. Barb Kauffman passed out a written prayer, all joined in reading it. It was decided this prayer would be used at each meeting to pray for our members & their families. Also for the men and women of Sacred Heart Parish in whatever they need.
Our guest speaker was Mary Grismore, RN, BSN, the head of Lucas County Public Health, located across the street from the Post Office. She gave a very interesting talk about what services the Public Health had to offer. Just to name a few, they provide Skilled Care, Home Care Services, Homemaker Service, New Mom & Baby visits. They also hold Blood Pressure Clinics; go to the elementary schools with Happy Bear to teach Good touch/Bad touch. They gave shots for whooping cough, H1N1 and flu. They make sure all school children have up to date immunization records. They have the Lead Program, where they go into the home and check for lead levels. Another important program is the Drug Assistance. They can help people get the drugs they need at reduced, affordable costs. Lucas County Health only has 11 employees, you can tell by the list of services they are all kept busy. We are very fortunate to have them in our County.
Connie Hoch gave the “Saint” presentation. She passed out a note card with the section, Father says during the Mass, listing many of the Saints. Tonight she chose Pope St. Linus. He was the successor of Saint Peter so he was the 2nd Pope of the Catholic Church. His feast day is September 23rd. Over time she plans to cover all of the Saints listed.
The minutes of the February meeting were read and approved. The Treasurer reported our balance as $2,347.53. 43 members have paid dues to date.
Jaynane will write up a summary of WOSH activities in 2009 to be handed out to the ladies of the Parish to encourage membership and attendance.
Old Business:
It was reported Manor Mass was held on the first Wednesday, March 3rd. The 5 residents attended along with several from the Parish.
Sandy Schmitt reported giving the card and Hy-Vee gift card to Linda Greiner who in turn gave it to the Rodamaker family.
Jaynane attempted to talk to Clark Fielding about the funeral dinner charge. He was not available. She will try again.
Max Willadson reported there wasn’t a large enough place available at the Manor for us to have a potluck for Rosemary Evans and the other Parish members there. She suggested an alternative plan, to attend the Style Show at the Freight House on Saturday April 17th at 1pm. It was discussed about taking Rosemary Evans, Mary Cusumano and Helen Miskimin as guests. Connie Hoch made a motion that we pay for the tickets for the guests we invite. Sandy Schmitt seconded it. The motion passed. Max has advanced tickets at $10.00 each.
New Business:
We need a second stove in the ParishCenter kitchen. Ron Altenhofen checked and one would fit right next to the one we have. There is already a hook up. In the follow up discussion it was decided we would look for one similar to what we have. Sandy Schmitt made the motion to buy a new stove and pay to have it installed, Carol Marner seconded the motion. The motion passed. Jaynane will talk to Father.
Our spring rummage sale: Articles may be brought to the Church basement in late April. Begin set up in May, with sorting M-W-F mornings at 9 am. The sale will be Thursday 6/3 from 2-7pm, Friday 6/4 from 8-4 and Saturday 6/5 the sack sale from 8-11am. Clean up will be the following Monday. If you know any organization needing clothing let Jaynane know, we will gladly give to them before packing up and hauling to Good Will.
Evelyn Pollard purchase 6 baskets, 3 for silverware at functions like the Fish Fries and 3 for rolls, chips and etc. Max Willadson made a motion and Sandy Schmitt seconded it to reimburse Evelyn for the baskets. Motion carried.
Secretary Barb Kauffman will be sending thinking of you, get well and other cards to members of the Parish. It was agreed for her to buy and send cards as seen fit. Treasurer Evelyn Pollard will purchase stamps for mailing the cards.
Out Reach Program:
Surgeries: Two women of the Parish need surgery. Connie Hoch will contact the families as to what WOSH can do to help.
One member is unable to attend Mass, do to stairs, and dislike of elevators. It was suggested we contact her about attending the Manor Mass. Connie Hoch will check with her.
Helen Miskimin: A card was send around and signed for her Birthday 3/29. Barb will mail.
Barb Moody’s father James Paulding, passed away.
Family with serious illness: A motion was made by Sandy Schmitt, seconded by Michelle McKernan to send 100.00 for the family at their home address. Motion passed.
Connie Hoch brought it to our attention, there is a new baby in the Parish. Do we want to do a baby shower or give them one of the books donated for that purpose? It was decided we would go with giving new babies of the parish the book. Max Willadson donated them to the Out Reach Committee. She passed, one of the books, around for us to see. It is very nice. It has a place for photos and notations and in the back expandable slots for filing mementoes.

The Parish Spring Dinner is to be held 4/10/10 at the ParishCenter. A nice, fancy, evening is planned for 30.00 per person. Reservations are needed. What are the funds to go for? No one knew for sure.
The next meeting will be Thursday April 15th. Jaynane Hardie and Evelyn Pollard will furnish refreshments. Thanks to Alice Herring and Barb Kauffman for the refreshments this evening.

The Women of Sacred Heart met Thursday, February 18,2010 at the ParishCenter. There were 12 members present.
The February meeting was called to order by President Jaynane Hardie at 6:30 pm. Connie Hoch led us in prayer.
Kathleen Chester presented a heart touching program on Immaculee, a woman who survived the genocide of Rwanda. Last fall, Kathleen met Immacule at a Women’s Business conference in Omaha. Immaculee has written a book, “Left to Tell” which hit the best seller list. What most impressed Kathleen about this remarkable woman was her ability to forgive the people who killed her family, friends and most of the people her village. Kathleen also gave us an update on her son, James who is in the seminary.
Carol Marner read the minutes of the November meeting. The January meeting was cancelled because of bad weather. The minutes were approved as read. Sandy Schmitt gave the Treasurer’s report. We have a balance of $2,577.53 with no activity since the last meeting. Carol Marner read a card from Joan Farrell thanking the women for Christmas plate, visits and prayers during her illness. Gloria Lee had a card from Sue Evans thanking the women for all they do for her mother, Rosemary.

Gloria Lee led the Installation of Officers. President Jaynane Hardie and Vice President Alice Herring continue with the second year of their term. Newly elected officers are Secretary Barb Kauffman and Treasurer Evelyn Pollard. Evelyn Pollard was absent due to illness, Sandy Schmitt stood in as her proxy for the installation. President Jaynane thanked out going Secretary Carol Marner and Treasurer Sandy Schmitt for their service to the group.
Old Business:
Gloria Lee reported on the Manor Masses held since our November meeting. They were held on December 2nd, January 13th and February 1st. Five residents attended each of the Masses and several members from the Parish were there to assist.
Jaynane reported on the Christmas Coffee held on 12/17/09 at Jennifer Fehr’s home for the Women of Sacred Heart. There was a huge array of food and drinks, with 12 ladies attending. Jennifer gave a tour of her home displaying 7 different decorated Christmas trees. During the lunch time gathering the women prepared 25 Christmas plates to be delivered to members of the Parish. They used red cellophane paper to wrap the plates, topping them with an ornament, making them look very festive.
It was submitted to Jaynane that 22 students participated in Celebrate. WOSH agreed to pay half of the cost for a total of 220.00
Sandy Schmitt reported on the clothing collected for the elementary schools. She delivered, sweat pants, underwear, mittens and hats at two different times. The schools have sufficient clothing for this year.
We served about 50 people at the funeral dinner for Germaine Cusumano. They served a hot meal with a variety of dishes that hit the spot on the cold winter day.
The Cusumano funeral was the only funeral dinner served at the ParishCenter in 2009.
It was suggested Jaynane talk to Clark Fielding about putting the funeral dinner charge on his bill. The Pierschbacher Funeral Home already does.
New Business:
Does anyone know of someone in the hospital or ill who might need our help or visit? Joan Farrell isn’t up to company and doesn’t need food. It was decided different members would pick a week, for the next several weeks, to send her a card from the WOSH. A schedule was set up. Prayers were asked for Pat Thompson, who is having back pain.
The home of Tony and Angela Rodamaker burned last week. A discussion was held on what we could do to help. It was decided we would purchase a Hy-Vee gift card. Carol Marner made a motion we give $250.00. Alice Herring second the motion. The motion passed. Sandy Schmitt will get a card and the gift card to be given to the Rodamaker family.
It is time for membership dues of 5.00 to be paid. They can be put in the collection marked dues or given to Evelyn Pollard.
Prayer Chain – It has been decided if you want to be on the e-mail prayer chain, to contact Connie Hoch. If you prefer to be in touch by phone, Carol Marner and Sandy Schmitt will be in charge.
Max Willadson suggested we take a pot luck lunch to the manor to have fellowship with Rosemary Evans and other Parish members at the manor who want to join us. A Saturday after Easter was suggested. Max is going to check out dates and the availability of a room and bring her findings to our next meeting in March.
Upcoming Parish events: Lent started Wednesday 2/17/10, the KC Fish Fries start Friday 2/19/10. Anyone wanting to donate pies, it would be greatly appreciated. They are always in demand.
Our next meeting will be Thursday March 18th with Barb and Alice furnishing refreshments. Thank you to Carol and Sandy for tonight’s refreshments.

Women of Sacred Heart will meet on Thursday, Feb 18th, at 6:30 P.M. in the Parish Center. Our program will start shortly after 6:30 followed by the business meeting which will include the installation of the secretary and treasurer. This meeting is open to all the ladies of the church.
Remember your dues of $5.00 per lady for 2010 are due now. You may put them in a labeled envelope in the collection basket or give them to Evelyn Pollard.
Parents of Celebrate children: If you missed the announcement that the WOSH would pay for one half the fee for your child(children) would you let Jaynane Hardie know so we can take care of this.
Just a reminder that dues are due for the Women of Sacred Heart. The dues are $5.00 and can be put into the collection basket or given to Evelyn Pollard.
Also, a reminder to the parents that the Women of Sacred Heart is paying for one half of the registration fee for the children who are participating in Celebrate this year. In order to receive the donation inform the Celebrate committee and they will bill the Women of Sacred Heart.
The Women of Sacred Heart's meeting has been cancelled tonight due to the icy weather. It will not be rescheduled for this month. The next meeting will be Thursday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m.
December 17th was a beautiful bright, sunny and warm day for the Christmas Coffee at the home of Jennifer Fehrer. It was a great time for the 12 ladies that came and the three hosting.The coffee was held in two shifts (11-1 and 4:30-7:00) so all the ladies could have an opportunity to attend and if possible help to prepare the food plates for shut-ins, elderly or those who might need an extra boost at Christmas.
The group put together 24 plates in an assembly line fashion that contained cookies, candy, raisins, several kinds of fruit, and a Christmas card. We were blessed to have an experienced gift basket wrapper (Connie Hoch) in our midst as well as many helping hands to wrap the plates in red cellophane wrap, tie with a curly ribbon and attach a Christmas decoration.The gifts were delivered by Sandy Schmitt, Dora Blankenhagen, Alice Herring, Evelyn Pollard, Gloria Lee, and Jaynane Hardie as soon as they were done.
The practice of giving food plates at Christmas has been a long time tradition of the of Sacred Heart Parish and was headed up by Mary Phelan and Joan Farrell for 15 years.A special thank you from all of us to them for their years of service.Also, thank you to everyone that donated money or food for the plates.We had some funds left over and that money was donated to the church fund that is used for people of the parish needing assistance.
Women of Sacred Heart will be having a meeting this Thursday, June 11 at 7:00 p.m. The agenda will include the success of the rummage sale, Corpus Christi, TotusTuus, and Ragbrai. Please join the women of the parish for food, information about parish events and fellowship. Hope to see you there!
Due to this meeting the Acts of the Apostles Bible study will be changed to 8:00 p.m.
