Our guest speaker was Michelle McKernan. Michelle told us about the Christ Our Life Conference held in Des Moines. Cardinal Arinze and four other Bishops were in attendance. Father Pisut was the personal assistant to Cardinal Arinze for Mass on Sunday. Members from our Church sang in the choir. Some points Michelle made note of,
Clean out your closet, if you haven’t worn it for 24 months it belongs to the poor.
God’s law is truth. It is not private, we need to share it. Evangelize.
Every Catholic Church – quit sitting in your comfort zone - go out and show with your actions- Christ is in your life.
What the Church teaches is what Jesus teaches.
Michelle’s enthusiastic story telling had all of us wanting to hear more. She has promised to come back at a later date and tell us more. She told us Mathew Kelly, an inspirational speaker, from Australia will be coming to Iowa City February 9, 2011. His topic will be “Making the Best Version of Yourself”.
The minutes of the August meeting were read and approved. We didn’t have a meeting in September because of the rummage sale and Fall Festival.
The Treasurer reported a balance of 2,999.69 in our account and 495.00 in the Family Fund.
VP Alice Herring read the correspondence. There was a card from the Bingham family thanking for the prayers and all that was done for their son, Roy.
It was reported the Manor Mass was held on September 3rd with 3 residents in attendance. Father and Gloria Lee went on over to Northridge where 7 residents were present. Manor Mass was also held on October 13th. Gloria Lee was gone, Connie, Alice, and Janet helped out.
Old Business:
The trip to Humeston - Mary Louise, Alice & Gloria went. It was a beautiful day with good food and a fun time.
Rummage Sale made over 1,800.00!! Several people helped and that really makes a difference. The Briar Patch took a truck load of leftover stuff. Don and Minnie Mullen and Kirk Moody took loads to Knoxville. We need to send thank you cards. The only thing left is a Christmas tree set up in the kitchen. We are trying to give it to the Senior Center. All cleaned up!!
The Methodist had a rummage sale and one thing noted was they tape 3 or 4 picture frames together to sell. We need to try it.
We purchased tables. 500.00 for 6 and SHARE purchased an additional one because they use it here.
Outreach Program – Do we still do the baskets to new members? We need to talk to Connie. It was suggested cards be sent to several members of our Parish. Barb asked everyone, to let her know if they knew of someone sick or with a loss in the family, so she can send out cards.
New Business:
Discussion was held on buying new floor mats for the kitchen. Gloria Lee made a motion to buy 2 solid mats. Virginia Callahan seconded the motion. It carried. Evelyn Pollard will research and buy.
President Jaynane asked for a nominating committee. The Office of President and Vice President need to be filled for 2011. No one volunteered to be on the committee.
Christmas plates for the shut ins. They saved ornaments from the rummage sale, for the plates . Do we want to have a Christmas tea like last year and get together and do the plates then? We will discuss more at the next meeting.
